Anyone in my family can basically tell you the exact floorplan of it without a second thought.

Two bathrooms, four bedrooms, huge living room area, excellent back yard. It’s a great house.

Last night, my mother had to go over there because my grandmother (Oma) couldn’t get the foxtel to change channel, and couldn’t work out why. Turns out she’d put the batteries in the remote wrong.

Now, Mum likes to say that “It’s still a long way off”, but I think it’s unspokenly agreed that within twelve months it’s likely that Oma will be in an old folks’ home.

What would happen to the house? We talked about this with my parents last night. The first thing they said was that they’d either sell it or they would rent it out to someone. Pretty much straight away, my sister and I looked at each other and said “How much? There’s two of us, plus it’s a four bedroom house so we could get two other people to move in”. I think we both understood each others’ need to not let this house go.

TL;DR

Within 12 months, I could have moved out of my house and into my grandmother’s house.

It’s nice to see a young man’s concern for his grandmother’s growing dementia.
