until tipoff for the 08-09 NBA season. At the risk of losing a few un-sports savvy followers, I’m going to post the results of my Fantasy Draft.
- Elton Brand
- Baron Davis
- Andre Iguodala
- Jason Kidd
- Tyson Chandler
- Samuel Dalembert
- Tony Parker
- Kirk Hinrich
- Joakim Noah
- Ryan Gomes
- Chris Duhon
- Rashad McCants
- Luke Ridnour
It was going to be difficult to snare a genuine first round gem with draft pick so low at no.10 so I am extremely excited with my pick of Elton Brand. It was constant excitement last year with Dwight on my team and tuning into the monsterous numbers he was racking up (in the first half of the season anyway) so this year with his absence, I’m relying on Brand to be the dominator in my team.
Was very surprised that B-Diddy didn’t get gobbled up within the first round but some idiots put Steve Nash and Greg Oden (!) in their top 10 so I am very pleased to end up with Davis as he is probably the best choice PG after Chris Paul.
With Iguodala at third pick, looks like I will be a Sixers man again. I made sure to elevate his draft position as he is a legitmate scorer in all categories.
Things take a hit at four. I had Kidd last year too and all his good deeds in assists/steals/rebounds were nullified by his atrocious FG% and points. Trade material.
Chandler and Dalembert don’t offer much offensively speaking but I drafted them to consolidate my rebounds and blocks stats.
Things start to get PG heavy with Tony Parker and Kirk Hinrich on board. Parker is a consistent PG and I’m surprised that Yahoo pre-drafted a fully fit starter on a championship contending team so low. Hinrich killed me last year with career lows in everything so surely he is on the rise with a new look Bulls.
From 9 onwards, things turn to shit. I don’t know how Joakim Noah landed in my squad when he wasn’t even on my pre-draft list and should have had Beno Udrih or Manu Ginobli instead. Something fucked up and I’m not happy at all. To make matters worse, I now have two T-wolves in my fold who aren’t Al Jefferson and even worse, a Knicks player. Instant drops to the waivers list.
Luckily with my final pick, a decent late addition in Luke Ridnour who will be getting consistent minutes with the Bucks and hopefully delivering dimes like his soph year with the Sonics.
Overall, the team is obviously very PG-heavy with 4 PG specialists in Kidd, Parker, Hinrich and Ridnour. Without a top 10 shooter, my points scoring will be touch and go, relying on the Brand-Iguodala duo and the Baron. No 3-point specialists either but rebounds and blocks should be shored up by my big men.To keep Kidd may overcompensate my assists category so any potential trades will be to bring in numbers for what I’m lacking in 3’s, points or possibly steals.
